Make a difference, get involved

Breakthrough Base of Muhlenberg County thrives on community spirit. Discover how your generosity, time, and voice can create lasting positive change for unhoused and underserved individuals in Central City, KY. Every contribution helps us provide a hand up towards self-sustainability.

Ways to make a difference

Your support, whether big or small, directly impacts the lives of our neighbors. Here are the main ways you can contribute to Breakthrough Base. If you have a specific skill or want to coordinate a larger effort, reaching out directly is the best first step. Contact Gwen Clements at 270-847-2508 to find out what our "Top 3 Needs" are this week.

Material donations

We always need "The Essentials" to keep our daily programs running. These can be dropped off at 304 E. Everly Bros Blvd. Our urgent needs include non-perishable food, bottled water, seasonal clothing (especially socks and underwear), full and travel-sized hygiene items, laundry detergent, blankets, pillows, and cold-weather gear for 'White Flag' emergencies.

Financial support

Monetary "Breakthrough" Gifts are the most flexible way to help. They fund critical "Hidden Barriers" like documentation fees ($15–$30 can cover a birth certificate or State ID—a key to employment or housing) and operational costs for our showers, laundry, and cooling/warming shelter.

Spread the word

In our close-knit community, word of mouth is everything. Follow & Share our Facebook pages (Breakthrough Base of Muhlenberg and Help for the Homeless Muhlenberg) to amplify urgent needs. Advocate for us by telling your church, business, or civic group about our mission; we love partnering for donation drives or "Service Sundays."

Your help creates real change

Your contributions create a profound "ripple effect," transforming lives from constant survival to long-term stability. Especially now, in February 2026, your support addresses urgent cold-weather survival and emergency shelter needs for our neighbors, preventing freezing and hunger.

Urgent needs this winter

With temperatures often below freezing, our immediate needs are heavily focused on keeping our neighbors safe and warm. We urgently need heavy winter coats (L–4XL), thermal socks, knit hats (beanies), insulated gloves, compact freezing-rated sleeping bags, fleece blankets, and hand/foot warmers. For 'White Flag' shelter operations, we constantly need bottled water, coffee, creamer, and sugar.

The dignity pantry

Help our neighbors feel human again with items rarely covered by government aid. We always need new men’s and women’s underwear and undershirts, HE laundry pods for our laundry program, and full-size hygiene products like 3-in-1 body wash, shampoo, and deodorant.

Specialized skills & financial impact

If you have a specific skill, we need Administrative/Tech volunteers comfortable navigating online systems to help apply for birth certificates and Social Security cards. We also seek Maintenance help for our facilities and licensed Transportation drivers for critical appointments. A direct Financial 'ID Fund' donation of $15–$30 covers the fee for a birth certificate or State ID, a vital step from 'homeless' to 'hirable.'
