We help neighbors regain their legal identity by assisting with obtaining State IDs, Social Security cards, and birth certificates, transforming "invisible" individuals into recognized citizens.
White flag shelter
Beyond saving lives in extreme weather, our emergency shelter provides crucial crisis stabilization and a "soft entry point" to connect individuals with long-term housing and recovery programs.

David's breakthrough story
David came to Breakthrough Base seeking only shelter from the rain and a place to wash his clothes. After losing his wallet and being evicted, he felt invisible. Our Essential Needs program restored his dignity, giving him the confidence to share his story. Without a State ID or Social Security card, he was trapped. Our Administrative Support team helped him navigate the paperwork and covered the fees, enabling him to regain his legal identity. With his new ID, our Case Management team connected him with a job and transitional housing, proving that a "hand up" can truly transform a life. "Breakthrough Base didn't just give me a handout; they gave me my name back," David shared.
Our unique approach
Our "secret sauce" is the removal of the "invisible barrier" to exiting homelessness. We solve the "catch-22" of not being able to get a job without an ID, by funding and navigating the process for vital documentation.
